Class Description

Do you have a camera that's been gathering dust? Are you interested in photography and want to see if it's for you? Or maybe you’d like to brush up on your current photography skills? Join us in this six week course where you'll learn how to pay more attention to the world around you and make meaningful photos. We’ll take the guesswork out of getting your images to look the way you want by learning how to shoot in manual mode and having full control over your camera. We’ll cover topics like exposure and composition while studying inspiring work from some of the greatest photographers of all time. A portion of each class will be spent practicing and students will have the opportunity to share their work. I look forward to meeting you! Supplies Needed: DSLR or mirrorless camera. If you would like to rent a camera for $30 for the duration of the class, please contact the instructor at kristilburton@gmail.com. She loves how it helps her to slow down and pay attention. When she’s not making images with her cameras, she makes them with her eyes, often on the lookout for light and interesting compositions. With her degree in Sociology from Brigham Young University and having lived in three different European countries, Kristi is passionate about photo-documenting people and places. She enjoys doing personal projects to push creativity. Her work is featured in a variety of publications including the book, Let Me Tell You My Story: Refugee stories of Hope, Courage and Humanity. Kristi worked on a number of projects for the nonprofit organization, TSOS Refugees, in Europe and the U.S., helping photograph refugee stories. Kristi received mentoring from Justin Hackworth and is a member of the photography group, Salt Lake Seven, under the direction of Kent Miles. She appreciates how both mentors generously share their photography knowledge and has felt inspired to do so too, drawing from what they’ve taught her and her own experiences as a photographer over the past thirteen years.
