Class Description

Jan 9th: Snow Leopard Students will love learning about snow leopards with this lesson that is packed full of art-making processes. In this lesson, students will explore basic printmaking using a scrap of cardboard and an included source image to stamp the lines that will make the snow leopard’s face. While the paint dries, an element of texture is introduced with a splattered background of white liquid tempera paint that mimics the look and feel of falling snow. Jan 16th: Watercolor Manatee This lesson, based on the gentle giants of the sea, manatees, is packed with opportunities for your students to explore texture with watercolor paint. Follow the included drawing guide to create your manatee in your choice of two poses, then use wet-on-wet, blending, salting and sponging to create the unique textures of the manatee and their underwater world. Jan 23rd: Complementary Color Lemur This bright and bouncy ring-tailed lemur lesson is sure to get your students excited about learning about creating both real and implied texture. Use the included drawing guide to draw the lemur, adding lines to create the fur texture, then add some additional texture with crumpled tissue paper flowers and folded paper leaves. This lesson also features an additional focus on complementary colors to create brightly colored lemurs with high contrast. Jan 30th: Conservation Stamp Painting This lesson is part research project, part artistic skill builder all in one. Students will choose an animal that is in need of conservation, whether endangered, vulnerable or near threatened and use observation skills to create their own conservation stamp. Using both watercolor and colored pencils will give the ability to create rich colors and explore value to create more realistic, three-dimensional drawings.
