Art After School: All About Fairy Tales
with Nancy Olson, Ages 5-12
Available spots
Class Description
Feb 6 Rapunzel Sculpture The fairy tale of “Rapunzel” is memorable because the main character has hair that is so long, it can be used as a climbing rope! I knew that a lesson featuring this damsel in distress must also include an opportunity to braid yarn to look like hair. Not only does this lesson include fiber arts, but also sculpture and printmaking. There are so many fun elements that come together to create this lesson, your students are sure to love it! Feb 13th Rhine River Castle This Rhine River castle landscape looks like it belongs on a postcard. In this lesson, students will explore using atmospheric perspective to show space and using acrylics to show texture as they paint the beautiful backdrop for their delicate castle. Easy shading techniques make the castle, which is nestled into the hillside along the Rhine River, more realistic by showing implied form. Feb 20 Royal Carriage Your students will create their own magical carriage by using circle tracers to help them create the body and wheels. Colored pencils and metallic markers finish off the carriage so that it is ready to take Cinderella to the ball! But, don’t forget to be home by midnight or it will turn back into a pumpkin! Feb 27 Prince or Princess Portrait Using a variety of drawing tool, students will create a detailed self portrait of themselves as a prince or princess. After creating proportions with a few simple folds, your students will be focusing on details and embellishments to create a magical fairy tale scene.
