Job Summary
BDAC seeks a creative and organized Director of Exhibitions and Education to oversee the curation of exhibitions, coordinate educational initiatives, and manage key community engagement programs. This part-time role combines curatorial responsibilities with the development of engaging educational and community programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in art curation, education, and community outreach.
Key Responsibilities
Exhibitions Management:
Curate two major exhibitions annually in the Main Gallery.
Plan and oversee solo and partner exhibitions in auxiliary gallery spaces.
Research and select artists and artworks for exhibitions, ensuring alignment with BDAC’s mission and curatorial vision.
Manage exhibition timelines, budgets, and logistics.
Communicate and coordinate with artists.
Install and deinstall exhibitions to professional standards.
Collaborate with artists and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality exhibitions.
Educational Programming:
Develop and implement talks, activities, tours, and other educational programs inspired by BDAC’s exhibitions and artists.
Organize artist talks, workshops, and community engagement events.
Build partnerships with local schools and organizations to promote educational initiatives.
Manage and oversee educational events, ensuring programs are impactful and well-organized.
Community Engagement and Event Coordination:
Curate and manage the selection of vendor artists for BDAC’s Winter Art Market.
Plan and oversee the Summerfest workshops and the Children’s Art Yard.
Collaborate with the marketing team to promote exhibitions, programs, and events.
Serve as a liaison between BDAC and the community, fostering relationships with artists, educators, and community leaders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in a gallery, museum, or educational setting.
Knowledge of exhibition design and current art trends.
Experience developing educational programs for diverse audiences.
Proven ability to plan and manage community events or festivals.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Familiarity with program promotion and community engagement.
