EXPERIENCE...PROCESS...DISCOVER

RYAN MOFFETT

OPENING RECEPTION AUGUST 16, 6 - 8 PM

Ryan Moffett has been an art educator since 1997 and he currently teaches ceramics, sculpture, and an AP art class at Murray High School. In January 2013, Ryan was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. During that time, much of his artwork focused on his experiences with MS. His meditative, large-scale coil-built sculptures are inspired by ancient Cycladic art and 20th century artists, such as Brancusi, Modigliani and Giacometti. The inclusion of deteriorated and frayed electrical cords symbolizes the degenerative nature of the disease, for which there is no cure. However, ultimately, his work addresses the peace and hope he has discovered throughout the process of learning about the disease and adjusting to its effects.

With his MS now under control, Ryan no longer focuses on that theme. He continues in a similar artistic style, but his subject matter now reflects rich, universal experiences such as love, relationships, family, self discovery, acceptance, passion, and struggles. Ryan graduated with a BFA in Ceramics from Utah State University in 1996 and a MA Ed. in Art Education from Brigham Young University in 2005. He currently resides in Murray, Utah.
