About
November 7th, Egyptian Drawing
You can’t have a complete ancient Egyptian unit without discussing their use of proportions. This style of rendering the human figure became one of the most distinguishing characteristics of ancient Egyptian art. Students will fold paper to create a grid and use observation drawing techniques to make Egyptian figures. They will also explore line and repetition while creating decorative patterns and designs.
November 14th, Scarab Beetle
In this unique project, students will draw a symmetrical scarab beetle, which is an ancient Egyptian symbol, and then fill in the wings and body with patterns. Drawing with metallic sharpie on black paper gives this line drawing project added interest and energy.
November 21st, Cat Print-making
Ancient Egyptian artists used strong, defined lines that lend themselves well to this print-making lesson. Students will choose between creating a print of a decorated cat or Bennu heron as their subject. They will then carve his/her image into a scratch foam board and then make a print.
