Like a Bird captures the integrity and dedication farm workers exhibit while providing the U.S. with its ‘daily bread’. Beyond just chronicling the intense physical labor their skilled employment requires, this documentary illuminates the profound insights and perspectives held by farm workers.

ARTIST STATEMENT
The ideas and issues I deal with in my work vary, but typically I look at contemporary social issues or topics to inform my work. My work does not necessarily answer the questions or problems at hand, but rather create a space for further reflection about the topic. I hope my work brings attention to narratives or questions that may be overlooked, such as, "How is my food harvested?" or "What happens to a child if their father or mother is deported?"
An observational approach is what I use when doing documentaries. This formal approach allows one to engage with the piece on their own terms. It also lets things unfold before me as the filmmaker. I approach the subject matter with some preconceived notions but always find something richer and more poetic with this approach. It's the poetic sensibilities that I'm after.
Though much of my work does not provide easy answers, it is my desire that one is left with a sense of hope. Hope in humanity. Hope in goodness. Hope in the sublime.
