Founded in 1972, Ralda brings international and Dutch folklore on stage for over 40 years now. Folkdance and folk music with live music in various beautiful costumes.

Since its foundation Ralda offers the opportunity to dance and make music to both children, teenagers and adults. Beside Dutch dances our repertoire consists of foreign dances from countries like Hungary, Armenia, Serbia, Israel, Mexico, Russia and China. All dances have been adopted for stage performance while authentic elements have been preserved as much as possible.

The costumes of Ralda have been carefully reproduced from original examples. Beside dancing groups Ralda also has an orchestra, which accompanies the dancing groups during performances.

During its existence, Ralda participated in many folklore festivals in Holland, Germany, Finland, France, Ireland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Latvia, Hungary, Italy and Turkey.

When participating in festivals abroad, Ralda’s young dancers present a wide variety of Dutch dances and costumes. Ralda’s dances are reviewed by the audiences as being cheerful, authentic and diverse.

Director
The Director is Lous Meulenbeld. She is attached to Ralda almost from the beginning. Lous began with teaching folkdances herself, later she brought her childeren to the group. One of them is still dancing in the group. And now she goes travelling with the group whenever she can.

Dansgroep Ralda is located in Raalte. Raalte is in the east of The Netherlands about one hour form the German frontier. Raalte lies in the province of Overijssel and is the heart of Salland, a region in the province. The characteristics of Salland are the farms with agriculture and animal husbandry.

Costumes
The costumes of Ralda have been purchased or carefully reproduced from original examples. We will bring the “tourist costume”, which means the costume foreign people know as the “Dutch Costume,” from Volendam.
Then of course we will bring our costume of the village of Raalte (where we live). This costume is called “Joapikstug”. And we have the costumes of the region. (Salland)
Besides that we will bring some other costumes of different regions of the Netherlands. The wooden shoes will not lack of course.
Musical Instruments

Besides dancing groups Ralda also has an orchestra, which accompanies the dancing groups during performances. The authentic instruments are: diatonic accordions, violins, bass, clarinets, flutes, hurdy-gurdy etc. It depends on which musicians are traveling of course. On this festival we brought an accordion, a clarinet, a bass and the guitar. When participating in festivals abroad, Ralda’s dancers present a wide variety of Dutch dances and costumes.
