BOUNTIFUL, Utah, April 5, 2010 – Bountiful/Davis Art Center and Davis School District present the Davis School District High School Students and Art Educators Exhibition. The annual exhibit will open on Wednesday, April 14 with a reception to honor the students from 7-9 in the evening at Bountiful/Davis Art Center, 745 So. Main Street in Bountiful. Awards will be given in Study and Original work, 3-Dimensional work and Photography. The awards ceremony will begin at 8 pm. The media will be notified of the award winners in a follow-up news release. Lester B. Lee, Art Educator at Woods Cross High School and former Chair of BDAC is retiring at the end of the school year and will be honored at the opening reception during the awards ceremony.

A perennial favorite for many years, this exhibition features the creative work of high school students. All high school students, not just seniors, are eligible to participate in the exhibit.

“The student work is always innovative and creative. We are amazed at the high caliber of art created by the students and their willingness to take risks. Much of this is due to the excellent art educators we have in Davis School District. We are particularly appreciative of Lester B. Lee, Art Educator at Woods Cross High School who is retiring this year. He has mentored countless students and ably taught them an appreciation for the arts as well as assisting them in developing their own artistic voice,” says Emma J. Dugal, Executive Director at BDAC.

Lester B. Lee, has coordinated the exhibit with the teachers and administrators at Davis School District and Melanie Swann, art educator at Woods Cross High School.

Mr. Lee said, “I am glad BDAC is continuing to make the space available for this important exhibit. As an art educator in Davis County, I have been involved in this exhibit for many years and feel fortunate that the Art Center is close by and willing to host this event”.

The companion exhibit will highlight works of art by Davis School District Art Educators.

Also on deck this year for the second time, selected works of art from Davis School District Jr. High Students will be on display in the Friends Gallery at BDAC. Jay Nolan, art teacher at Fairfield Jr. High approached BDAC last year with the request for a student exhibit. BDAC was able to fit this additional exhibit into the 2010 schedule at the same time as the Davis School District High School and Art Educators Exhibit.

“We are excited that Davis School District Jr. High school art students are able to exhibit in a district-wide show along side their High School peers. It not only provides the community the opportunity to see the strength of the work done by Jr. High students, but also gives these students a wonderful venue in which their work can be shown. Visitors will be impressed by the quality and creativity of the work of these students. This is an important chance for these students to excel and shine and for the communities in Davis County to be proud”, says Nolan.

Finally, there will be a companion exhibit in the downstairs classroom of BDAC featuring recycled art created from discarded materials by the students of Bountiful Elementary School. This exhibit entitled JArt is coordinated by Sherry Thompson, librarian at the school. The Family Encounters of the Art Kind activity on April 19, 7-8:30pm will be centered around creating recycled art. Families and friends of student art may view these exhibits during Family Encounters or anytime BDAC is open.

All student and art educator exhibits are at Bountiful/Davis Art Center through April 30, 2010.
