October 17 – November 9
BOUNTIFUL, Utah, October 1, 2008 – “These are tough economic times but Bountiful/Davis Art Center maintains that artists need to eat, even in tough times. Come and see some exceptional art and pick up exceptional deals on original art! BDAC has partnered with the artists to offer discounts of up to 20% to members of BDAC. Ask us for details!” Emma J. Dugal, BDAC Director.
Eight artists will be on display at BDAC beginning October 17 with an opening reception that is free to the public. The artists will be on hand to answer any questions about their art. The exhibit remains open until November 7, 2008.
Marcee Blackerby, of Salt Lake, is a mixed media artist who creates intricate art boxes and other assemblages using three-dimensional objects. She is best known for her ability to take disparate objects from the past and give them center stage once again. Her work often has an odd twist and satirical characteristics. She has shown in galleries and museums throughout the United States and has received many awards and recognition for her work.
Jayne-Anne Mulholland, of Salt Lake, achieves interesting chemical reactions in her mixed media work. She makes use of patterns, colors and glazes that create rich, textural abstracts that have an organic quality.
Tom Rogers, of Bountiful, works mainly in pastels. He enjoys painting interesting faces that he has encountered in extensive travels through Sweden, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere as well as members of his family and even ancestors. He also enjoys capturing some of the breathtaking natural scenery he has seen in his travels, particularly in China. Rogers is part of the Lamplight Art Gallery co-op in Bountiful.
A Group Show features Steve Sheffield, Dottie Miles, Marian Dunn, Carole Evans and Sue Valentine. Their styles and techniques vary widely but their presentation remains cohesive because of their friendship and years of collaboration.
Steve Sheffield, artist, says, “The ‘waffle and porridge group’ formed in the early nineties, getting together for breakfast before going to the life drawing studio on Friday mornings. We have been painting and exhibiting together ever since. A friend from New Zealand who joined the group during her stay in Utah called us the waffle and porridge group one day and it stuck. We travel together, paint together and have become lifelong friends. We are varied in our approach, styles and mediums; allowing honest and frank critiques on each other’s work. We often have parking lot critiques after breakfast, lining paintings up along the backs of our cars. We are all from Salt Lake City and have painted in watercolor (meeting through the Utah Watercolor Society), acrylic and oil.”
BDAC exhibits are open to the public with no admission charge. See the website for hours of operation. BDAC is closed on holidays and Sundays and in between exhibits.
